With her dark sandy vocals and haunting melodies, Bird York is probably best known  internationally for her Academy Award-nominated song – In The Deep – for the Oscar-winning film "Crash". With an understated delivery, the song wrapped a memorable aural blanket around the film’s pivotal ending sequence. Her song Have No Fear delivered a similar emotional punch under the searing reveal in the Will Smith drama "Seven Pounds".
Respected music guru Nic Harcourt calls Bird, “a songwriter of extraordinary depth with a voice to match.”  Music Biz magazine referred to her brand of moody groove as “torch trip hop”. A songwriter since her early teens, Bird started her own label  releasing two critically acclaimed cds, the self titled Bird York and Wicked Little High (formerly distributed by EMI now by Bird's own Bird In The Hand Music). Her new cd “Go With It” is expected out in late 2017.
Production collaborations include Grammy award winning mixer-engineer Thom Russo (Audioslave, Macy Gray, Juanez) and Grammy Award winning producer Larry Klein (Madelaine Peyroux, Herbie Hancock). On her new release, GO WITH IT,  Bird partnered with “Dexter” composer Dan Licht and artist-composer Duane Niellson. “This is a funkier record-- less late night soul searching,  a little more ‘shake that ass’”.

In addition to Crash and Seven Pounds, York’s music has been featured prominently on dozens of television shows and film. Among them: American Idol, House (FOX), CSI:NY,  Army Wives, So You Think You Can Dance, Warehouse 13, Nip /Tuck (FX) In Justice (ABC), Everwood (WB), Stand Off, an entire season of Paul Haggis’ CBS series Family Law. Film's include  Newline’s Happy Campers , the John Cusack produced indie Never Get Outta The Boat, Magnolia Pictures Dumbstruck and the upcoming indie After The Fall. Promo campaigns include HSBC Bank, Lifetime season promos, CBS daytime promos.
In tandem with her music career, York has worked extensively as an actor and  screenwriter. Acting highlights include starring roles in films opposite Diane Keaton, Tom Waits, Tom Cavanaugh, Dennis Hopper -- cameos in Crash and Curb Your Enthusiasm -- her recurring role on The West Wing and the lead role as a young Naomi Judd in the NBC miniseries Love Can Build A Bridge.
As a screenwriter she has written projects for Sony, Warner Brothers. Paramount, Fox Television Studios and Fox Broadcasting
Company.
